New 1000 dirham banknotes have been put into circulation
Recently, the Central Bank of the United Arab Emirates introduced a new polymer banknote worth 1000 dirhams, which has special security features. The banknote features the father of the nation and the first president of the UAE, Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, as well as a spacecraft, emphasizing the country's role in space exploration.
The banknote is dedicated to the UAE's Mars mission, which is currently being carried out by the "Hope" probe. An astronaut image has been added as a security feature on both sides of the banknote. The reverse side of the banknote also features an image of the Barakah nuclear power plant in Abu Dhabi, symbolizing the UAE's aspirations for a "green" future and a departure from carbon footprint.
However, this is not the first new-style banknote issued by the Central Bank of the UAE. In the spring of 2022, banknotes worth 5 and 10 dirhams were issued, made from environmentally friendly polymer material that is twice as durable as cotton paper. They feature portraits of the father of the nation, the official logo of the UAE, and fluorescent designs and inscriptions created using special printing technologies. Both banknotes also have anti-counterfeiting elements and Braille symbols for the visually impaired.
In December 2021, the Central Bank of the UAE issued banknotes worth 50 dirhams, dedicated to the "Golden" anniversary of the state. They feature Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the first president of the UAE, other founding rulers, and national and historical landmarks.
